Vegas Bachelorette Party!

Kind of like my first bridal shower, the bachelorette party was also, in a way, like a mini practice for the big day itself. I awoke early to get my hair and makeup done. There were dress changes, bridesmaids, presents, good food, good alcohol, and by the time we wrapped up the night close to midnight both my fiance and I were exhausted. But in a good way. Though the events of the wedding will be slightly different (more dancing than singing, and even more photos), the basic premise is the same: my fiance and I spend the day apart, but by the end of the day we are together, united, and celebrating.

Our ideas for the perfect bachelor or bachelorette party wasn't a strip club or an adult show. The fiance actually had a blast with batting cages, professional go-karts, and (his favorite) an escape room. My girls took me to my hair and makeup trial (first experience at the JW Marriott spa), a French bakery, all-you-can-eat sushi, an Asian bakery, and then karaoke, where the boys joined us for some guys vs. girls singing competition. I diligently kept score until we realized the scores given at the end of each karaoke song were completely random (one of the groomsmen tested this by playing an entire song without singing a note. His score: 97!). If I had to vote, however, I would declare the guys the winners given the fact that even though we outnumbered them, they gave rocking performances at the front of the room, complete with dance moves. The closest the girls got to dancing was when they prompted me to dance on the table and I compromised by standing on the couch. But that's not to say the girls didn't have awesome voices and impressive rap skills too. My voice started giving out only halfway through our karaoke time, but I enjoyed listening to the songs and joining in where I could.

Of course, just because I prefer less adult themes doesn't mean our bachelor/bachelorette party was completely squeaky clean. One bridesmaid brought some, ahem, "props" for karaoke, and we all had some good laughs (and blushes) over my bachelorette presents that are ultimately more for my fiance than they are for me, if you know what I mean.... ;)

The best part, however, was being able to spend the day with people I care about, who care about me, who I have fun with, who are just all around great people and great company. I'm so happy to have them all be a part of my wedding, and I'm so happy to have the memories captured on film. Check out the photos below!

Mani-Pedi Ready

The wedding is officially SEVEN days away. That means that in one week (give or take a few hours), I will be a "Mrs." Exciting! Scary! Both! But in order to keep the big day from being too scary, I just have to make sure I'm prepared. That means perfecting our first dance choreography ( see next post ) and taking care of any final items that need to be done before the wedding. That means finishing the favors, printing the programs, and nailing my wedding-day nails look. I wish I could take credit for my new French tips, but I don't know the first thing about nail polish. My fiance's mom treated me to a mani-pedi (the second one I've ever had in my life and my first one with gels!) at The Nail Shoppe LV in town. I'm ready for ring shots!

An Engaged Wedding Guest

This post is partially about my own wedding preparations, but it's actually about a different wedding. This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the marriage of my fiance's cousin! It was a beautiful affair, and definitely a fun night, but it also made me realize how different it is attending a wedding when you're engaged compared to attending a wedding when you're not planning to get married yourself. First, when you're a guest at a wedding and a bride to be, you cry more. As the bride walks down the aisle and as the officiant talks about the meaning of love, you stroke your fiance's hand and look at him. You're both thinking the same thing: this will be us. You both feel that same love. You both imagine saying those same words. You both know yours is going to be forever too. During the reception, you take pictures of everything --from the guestbook table sign to the macaron party favors. You think, "I love that idea of having facts about the...

Say Yes to the Dress!

Of course I chose my wedding dress months ago. I had to, considering how long they typically take to come in. I wanted to plan a wedding in six months. That's apparently "last minute" in the wedding dress industry. I'm not even kidding--most wedding books and websites recommend purchasing the gown "nine months or earlier." As luck would have it, I received a call yesterday that my dress, ordered June 29 (just 17 days after I got engaged) had arrived! That still gives me two and a half months to get it fitted and finalized. The road to get here was a fun one (yay, playing dress up!), but certainly not an easy path. I think I may have even dodged a train wreck along the way: It started out with my initial dress shopping. Almost immediately after I got engaged in June I started visiting the local bridal shops I knew (Alfred Angelo and David's Bridal ) to schedule an appointment for trying on dresses. After waiting five years to get engaged, you ca...
